Animals of the Rainforest
Sloths!!!
There are two species of sloths:two-toed and three-toed. They have grayish brown hair but,at times they look grey-green in color because they move so slowly that tiny camouflaging algae grow all over their coats. Sloths are nocturnal and sleep curled up with their head placed between the arms and the feet drawn close together. This disguises them as part of a tree so that its enemies, like the jaguar, do not see them. |
Orangutan!!!
Orangutans are born with an ability to reason and think. This large, gentle red ape is one of humankind’s closest relatives, sharing nearly 97% of the same DNA. People of Indonesia and Malaysia call them "orang hutan" which means "people of the forest" Orangutans have unique adaptations to their life in the treetops: feet designed much like hands for climbing, flexible hips for holding on in any direction, long arms for reaching and long, strong hands and feet. orangutans have little reason to come down from their trees. |
